In the 17th century, the Manor of Shrivenham held lands in the Manor of Fernham. In the manorial records, a beer house was recorded where the present inn stands.
The name The Woodman Inn has existed for about 150 years.
A part-time post office and stores used to be housed in an old stable at the pub.
Fernham may once have had two pubs. Forge House previously known as The Red House, is thought to have been the Black Horse pub. It is, after all, the only house in the village with a cellar!
