The children of Fernham now have their very own play park.
At a ceremony where wind and grey skies failed to dampen their enthusiasm, Fernham villagers watched their children try out swings, slides, and climbing frames. The children were so excited by their new hardwood adventure playground that they couldn't wait for the ribbon to be cut before they had a go.
Sainbury's generous donation of £3,000 had kicked off the fund-raising toward the playground, so it was only fitting that Dave Owens, manager of the Sainsbury's supermarket in Wantage, performed the ribbon cutting.
Short and enthusiastic speeches were also delivered by the new curate of St. John's Church, Fernham, Lesley Hay; Bill Egginton, who spearheaded the FAFF (Fernham Action For Fun) team which made the playground a reality; and Nigel Edwards, who first saw the potential for village planning gain from the planned conversion of the Manor Farm buildings into new housing.
Many thanks to the FAFF team - Bill, Herbie, Fletch, Anna and Dusty - for all their hard work which has given the village a wonderful legacy for future generations.
