Fernham's community hall initiative, Project Inspire went 'head to head' against The Corn Exchange, Stamford, Lincs., on 28 November 2007, in The People's Millions, The Big Lottery Fund and ITV's public voting competition, awarding substantial funding to worthy causes across Britain.

Films produced on behalf of both charities were aired on Central East TV's evening news. Viewers telephone voted for the charity they thought most deserved to win the money, and supporters from across the UK also got their fingers busy 'Phoning 4 Fernham'.
Amazingly, our small village received more votes than Stamford's Corn Exchange, and we won a supergrant of £94,000. We were, however, also pleased that Stamford's votes were enough to secure it the runner-up spot on Friday, and so the Corn Exchange will also receive its money for its dressing room rebuild/disabled lift plan.
