Village school

Our village school is Longcot & Fernham C of E Primary School in Longcot, which is only about two miles away. Longcot and Fernham School has about 100 pupils, half of whom come from the two villages.

Longcot and Fernham School

The two villages have shared a school since 1874. The original school remained in use for 95 years, and was replaced with the present building in 1969. In 2002, the Department of Education awarded the school 'Beacon School' status for its standards and achievements.

Did you know?

At one time, Fernham had three general stores (one of which included a post office), a shoemaker’s shop, a coal, oil and candle merchant, a smithy, a hurdle maker, a small market garden, a wagon builder and an undertaker.

The village pump, now a symbolic village feature, still has an eight-foot deep stone-lined bottle well underneath - though it has been safely capped off.
